The impacts of ecotourism. A review through the scientific literature

Ecotourism is considered a sustainable form of tourism that promises to reduce negative impacts. This paper aims to analyze the literature on ecotourism impacts through a systematic review (PRISMA protocol). It was found that most address environmental impacts, while others are under-represented and focus on charismatic species. There is little published evidence on the direct positive impacts of ecotourism, mainly because they are difficult to assess and may manifest themselves over the long term
